MESSAGE FROM THE CHOREOGRAPHER / DIRECTOR
Honestly, I never thought I would do a show like this, nor that I could pull this off. Not because I didnât want to, but because I am an independent business with no studio. Looking back now, everything Iâve done over the past 30 years has led me here. It felt like the next most logical step in my career. Every gig, every class, every missed audition, every win⊠itâs all part of this moment.
Creating this show has been wild, emotional, exhausting, and beautiful. Iâve poured everything I have into it, and then some. I created 14 pieces, worked with each for just one hour a week for 13 weeks, and I wonder how I got here. I know that itâs not because of me alone. Itâs because of the people in this show. Itâs because of this community.
What was funny is that I knew everyone I recruited to be in the show, but I didnât realise they didnât know each other beyond the classroom. People made new friends. People helped each other. New hangout buddies formed, and new connections were made.
Even though I work in the industry and knew that this would happen, that wasnât the most beautiful thing. The most beautiful thing was the fact that everyone saw how hard I was working, and people stepped up to help. They used their resources, their talents, and showed genuine concern for my mental health.
People stepped up naturally, without being asked. They gave their energy, their time, and their belief in me. That carried me when I was running on low energy.
There were many moments I felt like I couldnât do it all. Truthfully, I couldnât. But Iâve learnt something important. I donât have to do it alone. This show has shown me the real power of community. It has shown me the power of people coming together to create something bigger than any one of us.
Every person on this stage is dancing their own version of a full circle moment. Some have come back to dance after years away. Some are pushing past fear. Some are stepping into their power for the first time. I got to make that happen, and now you get to watch that happen. I got to build this show with them. That has been the real gift.
I admit, I have cried many times because of creating this show. It wasnât because of exhaustion or struggle. It was because I felt so happy seeing everyone having their moment. These moments meant so much to me, but they also meant so much to them. Dance is deeper than just steps. We create memories in our minds and in the very nervous system of our beings, and those memories stay there for life.
So please, with all your energy, cheer, cry, and laugh. Let the show affect you however it will. This isnât just a show. This is a celebration of everything it took to get here.
Thank you for being part of this moment. It means the world.
Love and Light đ«
